Needlbar
A native macOS menu bar monitor for Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor. It shows locally aggregated token usage and estimated cost next to each provider's quota window and reset time, with a home widget for the numbers you check most. It is local-first: no Needlbar account, no backend, no hosted sync, no telemetry. v0.3.2 is public, Developer ID-signed and notarized, for macOS 14 or later on Apple Silicon. v0.3 added a system monitor — CPU, memory, disk, network, battery — in the same popover, and a Module Studio in Settings to choose what the menu bar shows.
What it does
- Overview and per-provider views, each on its own refresh stream
- Provider-owned browser login for Claude and Codex; Cursor links to its own spending dashboard, no credentials pass through Needlbar
- Estimated cost computed from local session files — nothing is sent to a server
- Quota windows and reset times per provider, including the Claude weekly quota
- One medium home widget and opt-in quota notifications
- Local JSON snapshot export that contains no credentials or file paths
- System monitor modules alongside the AI usage views
- Compact analytics cards with expandable diagnostics
- Connection preflight that skips redundant browser re-login
Tech stack
Swift 6 and SwiftUI, split into NeedlbarCore, NeedlbarApp, and a widget target, with a C bridge to a Rust static library. The Rust workspace holds the bridge, project-analytics, and quota crates (tokio, reqwest with rustls, security-framework, zeroize) and vendors tokscale-core for session parsing. Requires macOS 14 or later. 464 Swift tests across 19 suites.
